New Vehicle Verification Rules Introduced in Buenos Aires

In Buenos Aires, stricter vehicle verification rules come into effect. New costs apply, and exemptions will be provided for certain citizen groups starting 2025.

New Vehicle Verification Rules Introduced in Buenos Aires

The authorities of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA) have announced that vehicles that do not meet the specified requirements will not be able to circulate. One of the recent measures is the tightening of the Technical Vehicle Verification (VTV), which now requires an additional requirement to pass the verification.

Regarding the costs of the VTV, for private cars in CABA it is $52,878.21 and for private motorcycles it is $19,882.72. In the Province of Buenos Aires, the costs vary according to the type of vehicle; for example, for vehicles up to 2,500 Kg it is $63,463.30 and for more than 2,500 Kg it is $114,233.94.

Through the VTV, the authorities can verify the mechanical condition of vehicles in circulation in Argentina. To schedule an appointment, drivers must visit the City Government website and complete the corresponding form.

It is reported that starting in 2025, some drivers will be exempt from this procedure, meaning they will not have to pay the road management cost. In CABA, groups such as disabled vehicle owners, non-vehicle-owning disabled individuals, retirees, pensioners, and those over 65 years old who own a vehicle and earn up to 2 minimum pension amounts will not have to pay for the VTV.

The VTV is a periodic inspection that checks the mechanical condition and pollutant gas emissions of vehicles. In addition to the usual checks during the VTV such as lights, brakes, and front axle, elements in the cabin are now considered, such as seat belts in all seats, a charged fire extinguisher, a first aid kit, and an emergency triangle or flares.
